The Norwalk Redevelopment Agency and City of Norwalk were recently awarded $6 million in state funding for infrastructure and affordable housing improvements near the South Norwalk train station. To support development near the station, while minimizing neighborhood impacts, the area’s existing infrastructure will need to be improved, including traffic safety and pedestrian enhancements, multimodal transportation accommodations, stormwater management, street beautification, and upgraded utility service. The project will evaluate current operations of the train station and local roadway network to determine the best options for commuters, residents, and local businesses. The project will result in efficient mobility with an emphasis on equity, multimodal safety, sustainability, and supporting economic growth in the neighborhood.
